We are always adapting and growing the services we offer. For the past 10 years we have had our own fully sound proofed voice over recording studio. Using our experience in creating and editing video we recently branched out into recording audiobooks. One of the audiobooks we have produced is “Down the Road and Round the Bend” by Roy Noble. A book of fascinating histories and traditional stories rooted in Wales that seamlessly blends anecdotes and personal insights with historical detail.
Read by Roy Noble himself we recorded it over a number of weeks. Using short sessions rather than long ones in order to keep up the energy of the reading. Keeping the voice over artist comfortable and their delivery consistent over 100’s of pages of dialogue can take it’s toll. You have to be aware that breaks are required at set intervals (whether the artist is needs it or not). This helps keep concentration and voice quality at the high levels needed for the audiobook market.
The amount of time needed for editing is also something to consider. In the above example this meant taking 15 hours of recordings and cutting them down to just over 5 hours.
Benefits of audiobooks
One of the little known facts about audiobooks is that they can help reduce negative thinking. Boosting moods and disrupting negative thought patterns. For people who suffer with anxiety and depression, listening to someone read aloud helps replace negative thoughts with something else.
Audiobooks are also good way of getting you off to sleep. They help relax your eyes and mind and also have the same positive effects that reading a book has. They also help develop literacy, vocabulary, pronunciation and comprehension.
