Last week saw the Cwmbach Choir world premiere of ‘Heritage – a Century of Song’ and what an event it was. The premiere took place at Aberdare Library Square using our giant LED screen and sound system. Proceedings kicked off with a few words from BBC Radio Wales presenter Roy Noble. Roy spoke passionately about his connections with the choir and its importance in the heritage and history of Aberdare.
This was followed by a performance from the choir singing a few of their favourite songs. No matter how many times I hear them, it still gives me goosebumps. What a sound.

The Main Event
After they finished singing it was time for the main event. The Cwmbach Male Choir world premiere screening of “Heritage – A Century of Song”. The crowds had gathered and there was anticipation and excitement in the air. Throughout, the audience were transfixed as the story before them unfolded. Much of it unknown to them. For the finale the choir sung along with the on screen version of themselves. I didn’t think the sound could be any better than it was earlier. How wrong I was.
Finally, as the end credits rolled the film was met with rapturous applause from the audience. An incredible day was had by all. Bringing the community together was one of the many themes of the film and the premiere certainly did that, and more. We also created commemorative DVDs. Designing the cover, disc and DVD menu and content. These are available from the choir and were sold to onlookers on the day as well as sent out free to schools and nursing homes. Truly a day to remember for all involved. The spectacle of seeing such an important piece of local history outdoors on the big screen truly marked this special anniversary for everyone.
