Location Scouting / Arranging 1/2 day

Finding the right locations can save you time on set, time in the edit suite and, in the long run, money from your budget. As ever, preparation is key.

Visiting the locations prior to filming allows you to make sure they meet requirements of filming, such as are they quiet enough to conduct interviews or are they interesting enough visually.

As well as finding the right locations, we will often have to negotiate permission to film within them. This might mean getting a filming permit from the landowners or agreeing on a fee to gain access.

During these steps, Tantrwm will perform in-depth research to make sure your film’s setting is suited to your vision, keeping our minds and options open at all times.

For this hospitality training video, we needed to find a large coffee shop to film the main scenes.
In total we filmed 9 scenes in both English and Welsh, meaning we needed the coffee shop for the entire day.
We managed to find a cafe that suited our needs and negotiated access to the cafe on a day when it was closed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Location, Location, Location!

Tantrwm have a tick-list of things we consider when we are looking for locations for our projects.

Logistics.

  • Is the location accessible?
  • Is it safe?
  • Does it meet our needs in terms utilities such as running water and electricity?
  • How much travel time does it add to the shoot?

Aesthetics.

  • How is the location depicted in the script?
  • Are there specific themes in the story that need to be reflected in the surroundings?
  • Does the story’s geography affect how the locations should look?

Availability.

  • Is the location available at the time(s) we are scheduled to film?
  • If so, how much of our allocated budget can we use to hire it (see Location Hire)?
