- What would you like to promote or convey?
- Who is your target audience, or who is it you’re trying to reach (and where are they from?).
- What channels do you want the video going to be available on? Is this intended to be a DVD-only copy or a viral web hit?
- What are the values of your organisation?
- What should the longevity of the video be in terms of relevance (is this to promote a long-running scheme or a one-off event?)
“But my organisation already has written material; why do I need a script?”
It’s simple. What is written on your website or printed literature doesn’t always fit well with spoken word. It can sound clunky and awkward, regimented and not engaging.
Script writing is an exercise in timing. What you have to say must work in conjunction with the editing/cutting and visual flow of the final video production. This is something that can’t just be copied and pasted directly from an existing source: it needs to be analysed and interpreted into a natural sounding dialogue that sounds good on camera.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]When Barnardo’s approached Tantrwm to create an animated short film on behaviour and abuse, it was clear from the start that the resulting film would have to be sensitive and tasteful yet memorable and impactful.
This would be no easy task, but with effective script writing we were able to thread the story along several key points and communicate with the young audience in a way they can understand.
The result was a harrowing and effective short animation that echoed similar cases in reality. This sort of project simply could not get off the ground without the right script writing involved.
It also served as a tool for our animators and storyboard artists to appropriate the correct emotions and facial expressions at key points.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
